There is no second thought about it.
Queer movie making.
EXTREMELY LOVEABLE dream girl.
I would love to have a girlfriend like Amelie.
Whoops lemme get back to reality and appreciate American Beauty.
I havent read Da Vinci code.
I will go to Jayanagar foot path and but it for 50 bucks.
The footpath I am talking about is near cooljoint.
I had idly today at SLV banashankari for the 1st time ALONE.
But it was a queer feeling missing many footballers
and the thooth goalie(GD) :-(
I have observed that footpath books are always bestsellers.
And another set of movies I would love to watch are Stanley Kubrick's.
And the Coen Brothers.
(I saw Hudsucker Proxy and it was hilarious.)
And then start making an own movie.
I dunno whether I am joking or seious
And THAT according to me is the problem.
Speaking on the music scene i am into trip-hop nowadays.
I am into a brit band called Portishead and these guys are
influenzed by James Bond music and they kick ass.
The songs of Swades are beautiful. The heroine I googled is
a model and she is a damsel.I have put her on my desktop
and work is going faster :-). Lucky mascot.
And I had given my car to service and it has cost me
my whole september salary.I have to go to some
financial plannign classes. This habit of blowing it all up,
I have got from Mr.Tejaswi.I will KILL you for this :-)
I have 4 new bridgestone radial tyres
for hosur and btm roads which are decorated with craters.
Let me see till how long they are not torn into shreds.
Other than that nothing else for today pals.....

Amelie
Watch it, Sudeepa, you, watch it again.....its a very sweet movie experience, and you start to believe in quasi-platonic love once again.......and it makes you feel that the moron inside us has a few rights that we keep denying him....... what say all??
If you want to watch a figure-it-out movie, watch Usual Suspects, it will leave you with enough doubts.....and an anger against this genre of movie making........that the anger is a tribute to the quality of the film.....
If you are looking for a very slick conspiracy theory based page-turner......read da Vinci Code. Its slick alright, its fast, its got all the Robert Ludlum/Sidney Sheldon elements, I had almost forgotten how it feels to read a thriller......tons of details......worth one read......
I was wondering about how its so easy to read something like da Vinci Code.....I sat with the book for around 6 hours on a trot and finished it......never had I dont such a thing since 5th sem, when I had finished As the crow flies, before some internals.........or practical exams, I am not sure.....but the point being, a thriller, you can finish, it keeps you hooked......but a classic like Lolita, being infinitely superior in terms of grace, prose, language, description and everything else that make great fiction........takes ages to read.....I have barely read 60 pages in the last one month.......is it like how we like Vengaboys when we hear them for the first time, and it takes us ages to appreciate Mozart.........or something on those lines? I mean, Bappi Lahri's music strikes an instant dingchak chord......while it takes ages to appreciate Bhimsen Joshi.....you get my drift?
So, thats how I have been spending time here......
And of course, one movie that deserves a very quick mention, American Beauty.......Papanna's dire warning that we need to keep Lester Burnam out of our lives.....echoed in my mind, as I saw him float high up in the air......splendid movie making.....and very very interesting times that we lead our lives in........
ps: on an afterthought I feel awesome that I remember about reading As the crow flies before some exam......but dont really remember which exam, and neither do I care about it.......hahaha........wonder whats really (been) important to us.....

You end up coding 460 lines and you are
surprised that there exists a library
function which does the same godammn thing
in 1 line.
So how do you handle your frustration?
Just remind yourself that you are an idiot and smile.

Dave Barry's quote on astronomers-Hillarious
Over the years I have been harshly critical of the scientific community for wasting time researching things nobody cares about, such as the universe. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of reading newspaper stories like this:
''Using a giant telescope, astronomers at the prestigious Crudwinkle Observatory have observed a teensy light smudge that they say is a humongous galaxy cluster 17 jillion light years away, which would make it the farthest-away thing that astronomers have discovered this week. However, astronomers at the rival Fendleman Observatory charged that what the Crudwinkle scientists discovered is actually mayonnaise on the lens. Both groups of astronomers say they plan to use these new findings to obtain even larger telescopes.''
With all due respect to astronomers: We don't NEED to find any more stuff in the universe. We already have more stuff than we could ever use, right here in our garages. We need the scientific community to focus on a topic that is of far greater importance, yet remains a baffling mystery to humanity, or at least guys: sex.
Guys think about sex a LOT. You know the painting of Washington crossing the Delaware, where the guys in the boat have facial expressions of grim resolve as they approach a battle that will determine their fates, and the fate of the revolution? Those guys are thinking: ''Maybe there will be women in New Jersey.''
But despite several million years of thinking virtually nonstop about sex, guys have made very little progress toward answering such basic questions about human sexuality as: How can you obtain more of it? How much talking is required? What is the role of jewelry? How important is the size of a guy's, um, car?
For guys, these are uncharted waters. That's why I am so pleased by a recent Reuters article, sent to me by alert reader Jorge Gomez, concerning research being done by scientists at Stanford University into the sex life of fruit flies. This research is significant because fruit flies have many biological similarities to humans. For example, both species eat fruit. The list goes on and on.
According to this article, when a male fruit fly wants to have sex with a female fruit fly, he goes through a series of specific steps, the first one being to pound down approximately eight martinis.
No, wait, that's what a human guy would do if he were going to attempt to mate with a female who had six legs and 17,000 eyeballs, which trust me is not out of the question for some guys, and you know who you are. What male fruit flies do is engage in a courtship ritual, which according to the Reuters article includes ''tapping the female, extending and vibrating a wing and singing.'' (The article doesn't say what they sing, but I assume it's Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe, by the late Barry White).
The Stanford scientists found that these ritual mating actions are controlled by a sector of the fly's brain consisting of 60 cells -- about twice the number of brain cells required to cast a vote on American Idol. According to the article, when scientists mess up these cells, the male flies rush through the mating steps -- ''essentially try to do everything at once'' -- which causes the females to become turned off and develop little fly headaches.
This, of course, is exactly the mistake that male humans make: We're always trying to rush through the mating steps. Stand next to any construction site, and when an attractive woman walks past, you'll hear guy construction workers suggesting that she go directly to, like, Step 74. This approach NEVER works. Construction workers have been trying it since they built the pyramids, and not once in all that time has a woman ever said: ''That's a great idea! Let's have carnal relations right now on this pile of dirt!''
And yet guys keep trying. Why? Because we're dumber than fruit flies. Fruit flies at least have some clue what their mating ritual is supposed to consist of, whereas human guys get most of their information from letters written by imaginary people to Penthouse magazine.
That's why we need scientists to determine exactly what steps are required for successful human mating. And I don't mean some vague psychobabble about ''listening'' or being ''sensitive.'' I mean specific written instructions that we guys can understand, like ''caress the target region in a clockwise pattern, applying 1.8 foot-pounds of torque.'' Wouldn't that be great?
No, because we guys don't read directions. So I guess we're stuck with blundering around, learning what ''turns women on'' through trial and error.
Tonight, I will vibrate my wings.

Weekend
Weekend was Movies and PHone calls .. Dont remember which took most of the share .. but there was a tough competition ..
Nice concept of a personal ZONE :-) ..
Had called pushpa, Vivek, Avinash, Mane, Nagan Mane, Deepthi, Harsha.
Well the best were Nagan Mane ... happy to know uncle aunty were in North India , though it was October 3rd no one mentioned( mourned ) abt Naga ,
Well time is certainly the best healer .??
Need to get thin in time .
I will be taking academics next year for sure :-)
COBOL isnt challenging ... I am not a master in it either .
Thought it would be a busy day today, but office has different things in store ;-)
life cool hai aaj.

the Zone
One needs to find his own zone, in life, in all its facets.....academic/professional, love, family, sport, community, hobbies, politics, people......one needs to figure out where one fits....and then, life has to be awesome.....
This thought was inspired by my Algorithms professor today; we were discussing the class feedback which people had given him (its a institute wide post-mid-sem activity). Reacting to a feedback that he wastes some time in class, he quipped that his friends tell him that he wastes a lot of time in life.....and he gave a remarkable, and almost enlightened smile after that......trying to tell us how insignificant these things are......he has found his zone in life.....he is physically thinner than anyone I have met, has the best sense of humor I have seen, has dived deep into algorithms and is pretty good at underwater swimming, has this serene all-knowing calm smile on this face all the time.......he is a good guy......one of the reasons why IIT rocks.....
maja bartaide.....
other than that, things are going on.....tests, seminars, project proposals, projects, assignments, reading papers, browsing the net, movies here and there, the usual......
The one thing I can say with almost certainty is that life has changed in a positive way.....and if someone is reading this and there is a background thread running that their life is getting wasted, they need to do something different.........take up academics in the field you like......be it animation, screen-writing, management, bartending.....anything.......

few thoughts ...
which are my own!!! well i am feeling pretty low..on confidence that is..i am in a pathetic state of self doubt..
yesterday i was trying to solve some probs ... richie kottidhu...and i couldnt get past the obvious solns...
i guess it was one of those days when my brain refuses to think abt tech stuff...the tragedy is such days are becoming the norm :(
hmmmm..will try to come out of it..have to find some ways by which i can prove that i am good..to myself...
papanna dont worry madko beda...yake andre janake free software bariyo josh idhe..adre adhana support mado josh illa...
so companies that provide software "solutions" will survive..as long as companies providing some other solutions feel the need for
support after installing a software ..
gd...its not the prob with seers..the prob is with the ppl...the ppl who drop huge amt of offerings in hundi..
but ppl are mortals..who need some kind of support...some super human form which can solve all probs...
hmmmm..jana..yenu madake agala..

I hate the concept of religion due to stupidity like this.. and more stupidities like jehad, fatwas ...
religion doesnt care about humanity ..
I am pissed off big timeeeeeee .......
Well so many religions do not have idol worshipping .. thank God ( did i say god .. 25 years am living with him ) they would spend only on buildings ..

I am scarily convinced....
The future for software engineers is bleak...
The future of software engineering is FREE software.
FREE software....it's evrywhere.....
Right from a graphics card driver to a display system....
Right from an operating system to a 3D game....
Everything is downloadable....
There is no trouble...
The dotcoms are replaced by dotorgs...
We live in a world where everybody is given solutions
to the other guy. This is gonna be history.
No more business solutions.
Only web communities and web forums.
I dunno where exactly money will go ...Who will get money
May be support (technical support) is gonna stay and some
Mainframes....Because we live in a free world.Unfortunately
ONLY software is free.
Speaking of solutions, Bangaloreans have given an entirely new
dimension to the word solution.
I saw these solutions today while driving to office:-
Vinayaka Transport solutions
These guys offer transport solutions to the guys who offer business solutions.
Lakshmi Beverage solutions
These guys offer beverage solutions to the guys who offer business solutions.
And soon we will have grocery solutions, underwear and bra solutions,
spiritual consultancies, fresh vegetable quality metrics (CMM certified),
and Bhel Puri solutions in Bangalore.By the way, I have stopped eating Bhel
puri because of depression and all the other things in the world.
It's been two months and I have proved myself that even I have willpower.
Everyone wants to be an entrepreneur with his company name ending with
the string "solution".
My current advice to that entrepreneur :-
So I am thinking what is the next best thing to do.
Software solutions will go down the frothy drain like an
old smelly solution from a retarded chemist's lab.
There is no second thought about it.

Well
Gaming is I dunno what sort of programming.
I have never written a game, I almost tried
writing a small Tetris game but , I sure do know
it is one helluva programming exercise.
Halflife-2 is going to be released.I found a technical
article on the gaming engine of half-life.
There is a "physics component" in the engine!
Which takes care of Dynamics, Kinematics and fluid mech
and all that.
Just check out this article.
MOOD :- Amazed and dazed.

Tribals
japanese MANGA?
The name is very funny.
Because.....
(this is ONLY for Richie)
manga means monkey :-)
I used to enjoy Japanese Hentai.Hentai is japanese cartoon p0rn.
But I soon realised that there is more to life than Hentai ,
so i didnt pursue my interests as far as Hentai was concerned.
I tried watching p0rn after a gap of 10 months.
It hasnt changed at all :-(.It yucked.
So I watched a program on the Piaroa tribe of the Amazon River
who hunt the Giant Tarantula spiders.Man! Amazon forests are something
beyond description. The rain and the greenery-Unbelievable.
I am sure the nights there are going to be terrible.Crickets
creaking away to glory..........
The tarantulas are as big as lemons and their legs are pretty big.
They shoot hairs at their target which can itch and cause pain.
These people get the female pregnant tarantulas and open the
arachnid's abdomen and make an omlette out of the 3000 odd eggs
and make fire using caveman techniques and eat it.
Another interesting tribals are these guys.
These guys dont know how to count....I dont know if it is a biscuit
or something.

I have fallen into the abyss that is lethargy; bored, listless, un-energetic, lethargic, sleepy, lacking-motivation, purpose-less etc etc.......some chavanprash should do the trick, I will be able to do some cooL swordplay like Sourav Ganguly.....
Went through the NPS-PESIT folks' blogs. Now I know that these guys do have thoughts :)))
Have tons of academic load to catch up with, am writing this cuz I bunked class now, 2 hours of incredible crap. 2 out of the 3 courses I have taken are very good; the 3rd one is good, but the instructor sucks.
Ok, enough academia......I watched Die Hard 1, 2, 3 backtoback.....crazy shit. Hollywood masala at its pinnacle. Was watching some old hindi stuff. Gurudutt's Pyaasa, and one intermediate file was missing. GROAN.
Will get back to something non-blogging related.

yes yase.....yes indeed....
If it weren't for your brother, it could've been you papanna......it could've been you. And you are a damn good writer. Wasted as a software engineer of course. And I am missing your scripts. People have changed, some of us in the US, some of us in India and !Bangalore (had to rub this bit of tech. notation), some of us are in different companies, some of us have seen relationships take different hues, and some of us, have done nothing.....maybe they have learnt some more Perl. But the point is, people have changed and that calls for a script. Do write one, please.
Richie, the whole idea behind this problem was to prove that the the blackbox algorithm is NP-Complete. And I was trying to prove that if you could solve the blackbox in polynomial time, you could solve the K-blackbox in polynomial time (my puzzle was to find this specific transformation), and the K-blackbox polynomial time eventually helps in solving Vertex Cover in polynomial time. And VC is known to be NP-complete. And so, the blackbox problem is NP-complete.

Nice soln
that was a nice soln.. But there seems to be one catch. You ask for a non-combinatorial
solution. Which would imply that your blackbox algorithm time complexity is not combinatorial. So if Rabin Karp has also given an algorithm which given the set, and the subsets , gives a polynomial time solution then that completes the nice solution
that you have given.
